Info What is a transformation?

Transformation is understood in a broad sense: it refers to all the steps involved in transforming resources so that they meet the specifications of needs. For example: transport, sorting, repair, storage, upcycling, etc.

Transformations are informed by the transformation manager role.

Info How do I choose the name of my transformation?

Upcyclea recommends the following formalism: Name of the transformer – Characterization of the transformation   (e.g.: PET recycling, WEEE collection and transport, various waste sorting, etc.).

Info Transformation: how do I choose the category of my transformation?

The first step when creating a transformation is to choose the category for that transformation. Some are intuitive, others less so. Here are some guidelines to guide you if you're unsure:

  • “Sorting” type transformations concern material separation operations, whether manual or automatic.
  • Upcycling: Any process aimed at regenerating resources while preserving or increasing the value of a product or material: purification, depolymerization, etc.
  • Control: can be technical, legal, quantitative, qualitative, etc.
  • Transport/Collection: of different types of products (inert products, hazardous or non-hazardous products, solids, asbestos, etc.)
  • Repair: reconditioning of products/materials for reuse or recycling
  • Methanization: transformation of organic matter for the production of biogas and digestate
  • Composting: transformation of organic matter to produce compost
  • Removal/Disassembly: Removal refers to the separation of components, generally from a building during construction or renovation. More generally, this category refers to any action of disassembling components of a product or products from their environment.
  • Storage/Massification: of different types of products (inert products, hazardous or non-hazardous products, solids, asbestos, etc.)

If no category matches your transformation type, check the “Other” box.

Info What are the "Input Quantity" and "Output Quantity" fields for?

The "Input Quantity" and "Output Quantity" fields allow us to understand the conversion rate between what the processor receives as input and what it generates as output and thus allow the ecosystem manager to adapt their requests when creating an ecosystem.

Info How to fill in input and output fields for entering new transformations?

There are different fields to characterize the transformation you wish to provide:

– Materials accepted as input and those generated as output – they are selected in the material nomenclature.

– The format of the products accepted as input and those generated as output ( e.g.: dimensions, boards, granules, etc. )

– The quality of the products accepted at the entrance and those generated at the exit ( e.g.: purity rate 95% )

– The packaging of products accepted at the entrance and those generated at the exit ( e.g.: bulk, in big bags, etc. )

– A miscellaneous keyword field to provide additional information.

These last 4 fields must be filled in using keywords: by entering one or more words and then pressing "enter". These keywords will then be used by the algorithms to optimize the search for users wishing to build material loops.

Info Questions: What do the icons mean?

The icon located to the left of a request banner symbolizes the current status of this request.

Icon Corresponding status
“Awaiting confirmation”
"Valid"
“Awaiting validation”
No icon “Pending”, “Pending modification” or “Confirmed”

Info Why is my transformation not visible as "published"?

When you click "Submit" your transformation, it becomes "Pending publication." Before it can be published and made available for ecosystem creation, it must be validated by your supervisor, who may ask you to modify certain details (completeness of information, spelling mistakes, use of nomenclature, etc.). Once the supervisor has validated your transformation, it will appear under the status "Published" and will be visible to authorized users.

If your transformation has been "pending publication" for a long time, feel free to send a message to your supervisor via chat.

Info Why can't I confirm the request?

Confirmation of a request can only be made once the relevant action or receipt of the material/products has taken place. Therefore, you must wait until the scheduled date has passed to be able to "confirm" the request.

You will also see the status of the request change to “awaiting confirmation” on the date scheduled for the action concerned by the request.

Info Can I edit a transformation after it's published?

The Transformation Manager may modify his transformations (quantity, packaging) at any time, even after publication.

Info What do the transformation statuses mean?

Depending on the progress of the transformations, they can take on different statuses in myUpcyclea. These statuses are visible to the transformation manager on the following banner on the home page:

– Draft: the transformation is incomplete, can be modified at any time by the transformation manager and submitted later. They are not visible to other users.
– Pending publication: the transformation has been submitted to the supervisor for publication or request for modification.
– Request for modification: The supervisor requested a modification of the transformation before its publication (completeness of information, spelling mistake, use of nomenclature, etc.).
– Published: The supervisor has approved the transformation and published it. The ecosystem manager can now create an ecosystem that uses this transformation.
– Rejected: The transformation was not accepted by the Supervisor.

Info Which category should I choose if the transformation concerns several?

If your transformation concerns several categories of the platform, then two possibilities are available to you:

  • If your transformations can be performed independently then you can create multiple transformations for each category (a collection transformation and a sort transformation for example)
  • Otherwise, group your transformations and choose the type of transformation that seems most relevant to you (for example, create a waste sorting transformation and add in the technical description that you also carry out the collection of this waste).

Info What is the difference between the “publish” and “save” buttons?

The "save" or "save as draft" button allows the user to save their work without going directly to the publishing step. This keeps the current state of their form and can return to it to complete it later, without other users having access to the incomplete data.

The "publish" button, on the other hand, allows you to make your information visible to other users, and therefore triggers the validation process. The information will continue to be editable (although there are certain rules to limit changes if the data is already in use elsewhere on the platform).

Info What is the difference between the “validated” and “confirmed” statuses of a request?

A request is validated when the person to whom it is addressed (resource owner, processing manager or independent processor) has validated the action proposed to them under the proposed conditions (date, quantity, etc.).

Discussions may have taken place before validation, to reach an agreement on the conditions for carrying out the action.

A request is confirmed when the person to whom it is addressed (resource owner, transformation manager or independent processor responsible for needs) has indicated that the action has been carried out.

Info What is the difference between an independent processor and a processing manager?

The transformation manager belongs to a myUpcyclea entity, he is responsible for entering the material transformations that he can carry out.
The independent transformer does not belong to a myUpcyclea entity: he provides his transformations publicly, and these will be available to all users of the platform.

Info Validate/request a modification/reject a request:

This is only valid when the request is awaiting validation.

  1. Click on the action button (the three vertically aligned dots) to the right of the request banner.
  2. Click on View details: a window summarizing the request information opens
  3. Click on the desired button at the bottom of the window:

  • Reject: directly rejects and archives the request,
  • Request a change: A dialog box opens, allowing you to specify which change is expected. Then click Send to send the request to the relevant ecosystem manager,
  • Validate: this validates the request, thus giving agreement for the transformation to be carried out on the planned date.
